The Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) is a vital clinical assessment tool used by healthcare professionals to identify adult patients at risk of physiological deterioration. It systematically quantifies key physiological parameters: respiratory rate, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, temperature, level of consciousness (AVPU), and oxygen saturation. Each parameter is assigned a score based on deviation from normal ranges, which are then summed to produce a total MEWS score. This score objectively guides nurses and doctors in acute care settings to trigger timely clinical review, enabling early intervention and appropriate escalation of care, ultimately enhancing patient safety and improving outcomes.
